Get ‘wacky’ this summer with the Schaumburg Park District

wacky scCure the summertime blues at the Schaumburg Park District’s Wacky Wagon Camp!

Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to enjoy swimming, playtime, field trips and messy fun, with free drop- in days and no long-term commitment.

Wacky Wagon Camp runs Monday through Friday, June 15 to July 30 and meets at Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane, Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road and Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Children must pass a basic swim test before swimming.

Free drop-in days include:

  • 9 a.m.-noon, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. (Bock, Meineke, CRC)
  • 1-4 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. (Bock, Meineke, CRC)

“Wacky Wagon provides outdoor fun that promotes an active lifestyle for children,” said Pam Gauper, party coordinator. “This is an excellent way to introduce them to new games, activities and new friends.”

Thursday Expeditions

Wacky Wagon also offers weekly Thursday Expeditions from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fees vary depending on the activity. Field trips include a visit to the Libertyville Sports Complex and a day of bouncing at Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Experience in Buffalo Grove, followed by swimming at Bock Pool. Registration is required for Thursday Expeditions. Children must attend any two days of camp throughout the summer prior to participating in field trips. Transportation is included.

Fantastic Fridays

Fantastic Fridays take place each week at a different District site. This summer’s themes include Minions go to Camp; Wacky Wagon: The Force Awakens; Wacky Wagon Olympics; Massive Messy Fun; Oh no…It’s H2O and Around the World in 180 Minutes. Registration is required.

Open to children ages 6 to 13, Sports Camp “Inside Out” offers the chance to learn basketball, volleyball, soccer and other popular sports. Camp meets 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Friday and takes place at The Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road, Schaumburg.

Take a swing at Junior Golf Camp

Junior GolfIntroduce your child to the thrill of golf through the Schaumburg Park District!

The District is offering Junior Golf Camp sessions for children ages 5 to 7 s this summer at Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road. Schaumburg Golf Club professionals will teach youngsters the basics, starting with Snag Golf. Created for beginners, Snag Golf uses large-face clubs and tennis balls before slowly progressing to regular golf equipment. Children learn the game in a fun, laid-back environment.

Open House for Early Learning Center

DSC_0007The Hoffman Estates Park District’s (HE Parks) Early Learning Center (ELC) full day preschool/child care center will hold an Open House on Sat. May 7 from 9-10 a.m at the Triphahn Center, 1685 W. Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates. The ELC is a state-licensed and nationally-accredited preschool program that provides developmentally appropriate instruction and a positive atmosphere for learning.

At the Open House, parents and children will have a chance to explore the two classrooms, meet teachers and ask questions about the facility and the curriculum.

The ELC is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. year round. Parents can enroll at any time, and tours are available by appointment by contacting Wendy Stoner at or 847-781-3631.
