Make healthy choices with Schaumburg Park District preschool

Be Active, Be Healthy is a Schaumburg Park District Preschool option that encourages children to stretch and move and eat foods that help their bodies grow. Available to children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2016, the program includes playtime in the Discovery Room (formerly the Creative Activity Room) of the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road.

Children may bring healthy lunches. New student registration packets for 2016-2017 District preschool classes will be available Feb. 12 at Bock Neighborhood Center, Community Recreation Center, Meineke Recreation Center, and Pat Shephard Center. The 2016-2017 school year will run Sept.  2016 to May 2017.

Master critical skills early in Tiny Tennis

tiny tennisChildren have an opportunity to reap the physical and psychological benefits of learning tennis at an early age through the Schaumburg Park District.

The District’s Tiny Tennis program, available to children ages 4-6,  focuses on motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Participants will learn beginning stroke mechanics of the forehand, backhand and serve.

Age appropriate equipment is used. Classes are taught on a 36′ court at Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road.

Upcoming classes include:

  • 4-4:45 p.m., Tuesdays, March 8-April 12
  • 4-4:45 p.m., Thursdays, March 10-April 14
  • 9:15-10 a.m., Saturdays, March 12-April 16

Kick off 2016 with Schaumburg Park District soccer

soccer-scSchaumburg Park District soccer classes are a great way to keep children moving during the winter months.

The District’s Kiddy Kickers Soccer program offers a variety of classes for children ages 4 to 9. In addition to learning the rules and fundamentals of soccer, participants will practice dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork. Shin guards are recommended.

Classes are available at Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, The Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road and Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road.

‘The Doc is in’ at Schaumburg Park District’s newest class

SC_healthyIt’s time for your checkup!

Registration is underway for Happy, Healthy Me, a new early childhood class at the Schaumburg Park District focusing on exercise and healthy snacks. Children ages 3-6 are invited to learn about being healthy with Doc, Lambie and Chilly from Doc McStuffins. In addition to playtime and exercise, youngsters will “check” their stuffed friends, just like on the show.

Happy, Healthy Me is set for 1:15 to 2 p.m., February 22 to March 7 at the Community Recreation Center.
