Resident registration for the Winter 2015-16 Program Guide begins Nov. 2. Non-resident registration begins Nov. 23.  From parent/tot sports classes for children as young as 2 and Jr. Soccer and T-Ball for 3-6-olds, there’s something to keep even the smallest athlete moving indoors during colder weather.

Half-Pint Hoopsters also is available for children ages 4-6 and 6-9. Tennis and volleyball also are offered.

The Sport Center, 1141 E. Irving Park Road, hosts many of the District’s athletic programs, boasting a 110,000 square-foot space featuring four basketball courts, six volleyball courts, two soccer fields and a gymnastic center. Tennis classes are held at Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road, which features eight indoor tennis courts and a multi-sport arena.

Updated features include round-the-clock online service; mobile capability; easy, secure transactions and integration with social media accounts.

Experience the ‘chill’ of winter racing at the Chilly Chili 5K Race

chiliChildren ages 10 and older are invited to test their endurance during the Schaumburg Park District’s Chilly Chili 5K Race.

The race begins at 10 a.m., Dec. 5 at the Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road. Participants may warm up after the race with a chili lunch. Awards will be issued in each age group, including 10-14 and 15-19. Each racer will receive a long-sleeve tech shirt.

Registration is $30 through Dec. 1 and available at Active.com. Day-of race registration is $35 and takes place at the event from 8-9:30 a.m.

Defeat boredom with winter break camps

sc-winter campWinter break camps at the Schaumburg Park District offer the perfect cure for cabin fever.

From Legos and chess to field trips and gym time, a variety of camps are available to keep children active and engaged while school  is out.

Way Fun Winter Break Camp meets 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 21-30, at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. The camp is for children ages 6-12. Registration is available for individual days or the full six days.

Spring Valley also offers a winter break camp for children ages 7-12 from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Dec. 21-23, Dec. 28-30 and Dec. 21-30. Participants will spend the day at the Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, tracking animals, looking for birds and experimenting with snow. Parents may choose from three day or six day camps.

  • Pre-Engineering Winter Break Mini-Camp with Lego Robotics,  10-11 a.m., Dec. 28-29, Bock

Enjoy a night of third and fourth-grade fun at the Sport Center

bubble soccer-schaumburg canChildren ages 8 to 11 will take over the Schaumburg Park District’s Sport Center for an evening of games and activities with their friends.

Third and Fourth Grade Sports Night takes place 7 to 9 p.m., Nov. 6 at the Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road. The event features a variety of sports, including basketball and Dodgeball. Youngsters also may play the District’s newest sport—Bubble Soccer!

Snacks and refreshments will be available. Cost is $10 and registration is required.
