From tennis and Dodgeball to skateboarding and cheerleading, there still are a variety of Schaumburg Park District camps available to keep kids active in these remaining weeks of summer.
Skyhawks Skateboarding Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 3-7 at the District’s scenic Olympic Park, 1675 E. Old Schaumburg Road. Participants ages 6-12 will receive basic skateboarding instruction with an emphasis on balance, pushing the board, kick turns, maneuvering and more. Campers will receive a t-shirt and merit award. Participants should bring a skateboard, helmet/wrist/elbow pads, appropriate clothing, two snacks, water bottle, running shoes and sunscreen.
National Dodgeball Association Dodgeball Skills Camp also runs Aug. 3-7 at Olympic Park, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. In addition to the fun of playing Dodgeball, participants will learn important techniques, strategies and skills necessary to successfully play the game and be part of a team. Instructors will include past NADA champions.
Youth Tennis Camp begins for ages 7-10 on Aug. 3 and runs through Aug. 7 from 9:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Players will be grouped by ability and will learn important aspects of the game, including technical strokes, keeping score, rallying and competing.
Tumble and Cheer Camp kicks off from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 10 and runs through Aug. 13 at The Sport Center, 1141 Irving Park Road. The camp offers children ages 6 to 14 the chance to improve tumbling skills, balance work and jump sequences to help meet qualifications for cheerleading squads. The camp also incorporates strength and flexibility training.
