Sharpen swimming skills with the Barracudas

Barracuda-SCExperience the thrill of competition and skill development by joining the Barracuda Swim Team at the Schaumburg Park District.

New swimmer tryouts begin June 1. Swimmers will be asked to get into the water and be evaluated by swim coaches. Competition levels are available for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced swimmers ages 5-13. Requirements for each level include:

  • Beginner: Must be able to swim 50 yards. Practices are 8 to 9 a.m. June 16-Aug. 13 at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way.
  • Intermediate: Must be able to swim 50 yards in all four competitive strokes. Practices are 8 to 9 a.m. June 15-Aug. 14 at Meineke.
  • Advanced: Must be able to swim 100 yards of each competitive stroke continuously. Practices are 7:30 to 9 a.m. June 15-Aug. 13 at Meineke.

An option to compete with the USA Swimming Team also is available for skilled swimmers ages 5 to 18. Participants must have a strong background in training and stroke mechanics in all four strokes and a commitment to compete. Workouts are 3000-5000 yards a practice and take place from 6 to 8 a.m. June 15 through Aug. 14 at Meineke.

Returning swimmer registration for the Barracuda Swim Team begin 6 to 8 p.m. June 2 at The Water Works Family Aquatics Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road.
