Teach little ones about sports

Jr. Super Sports at the Schaumburg Park District is for the all-around athlete or child who wants to try different sports.IMG_5355

Children will stay active and work on balance, motor skills and hand-eye coordination while learning the rules of baseball, football, floor hockey, soccer and basketball.

The program focuses on a new sport each class and works on basic rules and mechanics while playing games.

Upcoming classes include:

  • 11 a.m. to noon, April 7-May 19 at the Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road. Class is for ages 4 to 6.
  • 2:45 to 3:30 p.m., April 9-May 21 at the Sport Center. Class is for ages 3 to 4.

First Lady Michelle Obama is challenging everyone across the nation to #GimmeFive to celebrate the 5th anniversary of her Let’s Move initiative.

 

Dodge into the Spring Break Dodgeball Tournament

Youth teams will compete for paid bids to the National Amateur Dodgeball Association Outdoor National Championships and the Spring Break Tournament championship.

Dodge, duck and dodge 10 a.m., March 28 at the Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road.

Youth division grades are based on the current 2014-2015 school year. Divisions include:

  • 4-6 grade
  • 7-8 grade
  • 9-12 grade

Games played approximately every four minutes. This is a NADA sanctioned event. All participants receive a T-shirt. Team prizes are awarded to champions.

Registration deadline is March 23.

Learn the essential basketball fundamentals

Children will learn the basketball fundamentals through the Big3 Basketball Skills Camp at the Schaumburg Park District.

Participants will learn fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, rebounding, defense, 1-on-1, footwork and team concepts.

Upcoming classes include:

  • 8-10 years old | 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursdays March 12-April 16 at Meineke Recreation Center.
  • 11-14 years old | 7:30-8:30 p.m., Thursdays March 12-April 16 at Meineke Recreation Center.

Class will be led by Big3 Basketball co-founders, former Conant High School All-Conference Shooting Guard and current college basketball player, Robert Hudson and former Conant High School All-Conference Point Guard Aagam Shah.
