The free event features fun for ages 6 and younger along with parents. There will be board games, riding sticks and scooter boards. And there will be a climber, ring toss and balance beam. family fun night

The event also will feature exercise equipment for the littlest exercise enthusiasts.  Barb Lindholm, Park District early childhood resource coordinator, said there will be a preschool fitness station equipped with a kid-sized treadmill, weight bench, cycle and elliptical machine.

“It’s just a fun event,” said Lindholm, adding that the event is unstructured and that parents and children may come and go freely throughout the event.

The fun night wouldn’t be complete without the legendary snowball room. That’s where the youngest fitness buffs will find soft equipment to play with, including a parachute and cotton balls.

Play Ball! Early Bird Registration Ends 2/20

By Hoffman Estates Park District

IMG_0088What is it about baseball and softball that draws kids back year after year? Why do we romanticize about the “Field of Dreams” and rally around our favorite teams? The Cubs…the Sox…which side are you on? Maybe it’s the strategy, the skill or the suspense. Or, it could be the fact that everyone can play. Baseball doesn’t require a certain height, speed or weight. All you need is a willingness to do your best.

Registration is now underway for Spring Youth Baseball and Youth Softball at the Hoffman Estates Park District. Sign up by Friday, Feb. 20 to get a $20 discount on fees.Practices begin in April. Scholarships are available through the Friends of HE Parks Foundation for families facing financial hardships.

For the kids in 4th grade and younger, every attempt is made to place them in teams that practice at fields near their homes. Friendship requests are accepted, too, so whenever possible, kids can be on the same team with their buddies. Parents interested in coaching should contact Kyle Thomas at kthomas@heparks.org or 847-285-5429.
