Wildflower Seed Collecting

Get some fresh air rain or shine and take part in National Public Lands Day with Hoffman Estates Park District by helping collect native plant and wildflower seeds for future plantings. We need volunteers of all ages Sept.27 at 10 AM! The seed collecting will be at Charlemagne Park, 3799 Bordeaux.

WildflowerEvent-10Come learn about the natural areas, native plants and wildflowers right in your back yard! Light   snacks will be served. This event is free; we welcome groups and scouting troops. Take part in the largest single day volunteer effort for public lands in the US, National Public Lands Day.

Fall fun for the family at Scarecrow Festival

The Hoffman Estates Park District will host its annual Scarecrow Festival at Vogelei Park, 650 West Higgins Road, on Sept.20 from noon-3 p.m.

DSC_0209In addition to a whimsical scarecrow display, country band Billy Croft & the 5-Alarm Band will perform from 1-2 pm in the pavilion. Admission is FREE. The festivities of the day will also include a climbing wall, safety town exploration, crafts, snacks, and so much more.

Stay active with Home School PE, Swim and Health

IMG_5307A new school year brings new fun and new activities.  The fall session of home school PE, Swim and Health will feature an introduction to sports, skill development and health.

 

Children will have fun this fall swimming and playing at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road.  The fall session of Home School PE, Swim and Health runs 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sept. 18-Dec. 4.

 

The fall session is chalk full of fitness fun.  The first half of class will be spent in the gym and the second half of class will be spent swimming and playing in the pool.

 

Participants must wear active clothing including gym shoes and bring swim attire and a towel each week.

New Friends and New Fitness Fun at the Sport Center

Stay active, meet new friends and have fun during open gym sessions designed for home school children.

 

Home school open gym and turf is open time to play gym and field sports at the Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road.  Throughout the fall session, children will be able to get up and get active playing a variety of sports with a variety of people.  The fall session runs 12:30-2:30 p.m. Sept. 19-Dec. 5.

Shoot baskets, play catch, soccer or volleyball – the opportunities are endless.  Create your own fun with a variety of gym and field sports equipment and new friends.

 

This is not instructor-led, rather a parent-supervised open program.  Children are required to wear gym shoes.  Registration or daily fee is required.

Schaumburg Park District Half Pint Hoopsters are a slam dunk

Youth BasketballHalf Pint Hoopsters are SPD MVPs.

 

Half pint hoopsters will learn the basics of basketball at the Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road, Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road and Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road.

 

Hoopsters will practice and improve skills including dribbling, shooting and passing.  Learning the game is only the first part of this class, hoopsters will also learn how to work as a team and develop teamwork skills throughout the camp as well.
