New! Farm Market in Hoffman Estates

By Hoffman Estates Park District

FarmerTroy062013_6920LR_smallNow local residents can get fresh, local naturally-grown, non-genetically modified produce grown from organic heirloom seeds. The Hoffman Estates Park District and Prairie Stone Sports and Wellness Center is proud to host a weekly Farm Market on Thursday mornings through October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Prairie Stone parking lot at 5050 Sedge Blvd, in Hoffman Estates.

NOTE: There is NO Farm Market on Thursday, July 4.

Most children and adults do not eat enough fruits and vegetables, said Prairie Stone’s Registered Dietitian, Amy Daum, MPH, RD, LDN. Farmers markets can be a great way to encourage kids to pick out some new produce for meals and snacks. “Children who help pick out the family produce at a farmers market, and assist with simple and safe preparation techniques, are much more invested in eating fruits and vegetables,” said Daum.

The Farm Market is part of the Park District’s HEALTH initiative, an acronym that stands for Helping Everyone Achieve a Lifestyle That’s Healthy, and is an effort to reduce childhood obesity in our community. Read more about the HEALTH initiative.
